What Is a Blog

by Jeremy Delgado in Internet Marketing

A blog is a database that you feed on a daily basis so the search engines will feed your information to the people that are looking for what you have.

A blog (a truncation of the expression web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries (“posts”) typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). – says wiki

Who can use a blog?

People looking to brand themselves, people with a specific message, causes, churches, restaurants and so much more.

Blogs are better than a static webpage.

Blogs are great for use in soap-boxing (talking about what you want and sharing your STRONG opinion)!

Meaning if you have a cause you want to fight for, you can talk about and show your emotions and thoughts on your own BLOG.

You can say whatever you want in any way you want… “like OMG, no way! I cannot believe he just said that” if you were 15 :-)
Blogs are created to use many different avenues of media such as:

  • Articles
  • Videos
  • Images
  • Social integration (facebook, google+, pinterest, twitter, linkedin, Instagram, youtube)

Who could use a blog?

  • A non profit church
  • Someone Selling (article marketing, video marketing, image marketing) – etsy, amazon, ebay, info products, own products, affiliate products, home, life insurance, landscaping, hair shops, service centers, accountants

What’s the difference between:

Blog vs Standard Website?

  • Blogs are made very, very simple for ANYONE to get their info out there.
  • A blog is two way communication versus standard website is one way.

Search Engines:

  • Blogs get SEO ranking fast
  • A blog is a fast setup process
  • A static website is very slow and tedious and sometimes takes an html, coder and IT guy to do it.

Speed is huge when it comes to getting your content on the web.  Blogs are all about speed and making it easy to get your info out there.

The main thing to do in blogging is DOING!

In blogging you get a faster following (fans, friends, likes, tweets) due to the pieces of content you put on your blog.

Blogs are easy:

  • Regular posts (content)
  • -WISIWIG what I see is what I get (no coding needed)
  • -Blogs are built for you to get your stuff out on the internet as soon as possible.
  • CONTENT IS KING, get good content and frequent content

How to build a Better Blog.

Go after a specific niche (vegetarians, specific sports, juice cleanse) be an authority.

Keyword – a topic or keyword that someone is specifically looking for right now on the search engines.

Example “best Mediterranean food in Chicago, Illinois”.

You make money when you solve people’s problems.

The closer you get to a long tail keyword the easier it is to rank in the search engines.

Google is a matchmaker between the best website for this person that has a certain search and the person itself.

Remember, Google’s mission is to organize the worlds information all in one place.

How to find keywords:

  • Go to Google and type in something you are interested in and find out what Google shows for auto suggest.
  • Build a blog on keywords suggested by Google because Google is telling you exactly what people are looking for, don’t go against the grain.

Blog with an end in mind.

What pain are you trying to solve for people:

  • Goal accomplishment
  • money$$$
  • Influence
  • Ability to Stay home by making money

If you don’t have an end in mind you could wounder aimlessly and get nowhere.

Create valuable content – Not Spam!

When you create valuable content your stuff can spread like wild fire through friends and followers because it is shared via Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets.

Easiest way to get started?

  • Good Content
  • Frequent Content
  • Use good keywords

To recap “what is a blog”?

A blog is just an avenue of online media/opportunity/way to let you voice your opinion in an easy way.

There are free blogs and there are paid blogs – But that is for another post :o)

Anyone can have a blog.

Don’t fear getting started online.

You don’t have to be a guru to teach someone something.

You do not have to be perfect, you just have to do it.

You are important and your message is important.

Live, Laugh, Love
